Sandvik are a Swedish company associated with the production of high-performance stainless steels for many years.
The term super duplex is typically applied to duplex stainless steels with a chromium content of 25% and a PREN value >40.
Zeron 100 is a super duplex stainless steel developed in the 1980’s by Mather & Platt, more widely referred to as Alloy 32760, F55, 1.4501.
A sheet is a thinner item of metal cut from a continuously rolled coil, whereas a plate is a thicker item rolled as a single piece.
There are subtle composition differences between super duplex grades, but Ferralium is the only one to exceed a min. yield strength of 85ksi.
Improvements have been made to the composition, reducing impurities and associated inclusions, plus improved heat treatment.
Ferralium is the original super duplex stainless steel, developed by Langley Alloys throughout the 1960’s and a patent in 1967.
S32205 (F60) is produced to the upper end of the alloy specification of S31803 (F51), to give improved corrosion resistance.
Duplex stainless steel is produced through a multi-stage steelmaking and forming process route.
Due to it consisting of approximately 50% ferritic microstructure, duplex stainless steels are considered magnetic.
Ferralium is the world’s first super duplex stainless steel developed by Langley Alloys in 1967.
Super duplex stainless steels benefit from a combined microstructure of austenite and ferrite, which provides an optimum mix of properties.
